Distinctives

Southside Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist family with a desire to serve the Lord Jesus Christ in the fullness of His calling and with a heart to share the following:

Love of Christ with the Lonely- Who is that? Paul says it this way in 2 Corinthians 11:27-28b, "I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked. Besides everything else, I face daily the pressure..." Paul is talking about his ministry struggles... I am talking about life's struggles! In each of our lives, there are those times that "lonely" is the only word that fits what we are going through. It is the love the Lord Jesus Christ, expressed through the church family, that has the ability to sustain us in those times.

Power of Christ to Those who are Struggling- "The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our lord Jesus be with you," says Romans 16:20. As we strive to live a life of joy and find peace, these are often lost as we battle the daily grind and find ourselves on the losing end. But God has provided a solution through the power of Jesus Christ and the redemption He offers.

Grace of Christ to the Wandering- Our desire is to be the hands and feet of the Lord Jesus Christ. Long before Jesus was born, Isaiah said, "We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all" (53:6). Keeping in mind that "we all" includes each of us at Southside Baptist Church and that "wandering" is a part of each of our lives; grace is not an option but is the standard that Jesus set for us to follow.

Beliefs

We are only able to share the things listed above because we believe the following:

The Bible to be the inspired word of God, complete without error, and being written by men guided by the Holy Spirit It is the absolute source of truth in all things.

God is the Creator of all that is, Ruler of all He created, and the "Alpha and Omega"- the beginning and the end of all.

Jesus is the only Son of God who is co-equal and co-exists with God the Father, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life on earth, was the willing and final sacrifice for the sins of man, arose from the dead after three days, was seen by men, ascended to heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father as the intermediary for all mankind.

The Holy Spirit is co-equal and co-exists with Jesus and God the Father; was sent by God into the world for the purpose of guiding mankind to a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, to live within all believers from the time of salvation; provides the understanding of spiritual truth, and is the guide for living a life in Christ.

Mankind is created in the image of God as the crown of all He has created. We have been separated from God because of the sin nature we each possess and all are in need of the saving grace of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Salvation is God's free gift to mankind, offered to all that will receive Jesus Christ as the blood atonement for their sins. Salvation is eternal, beginning the moment we accept Christ. It is secure because it is through the completed work of Christ on the cross and not by the works of man on earth.

Baptism is the outward sign of the inward transformation from death in sin to life in Christ. It is an act of obedience which is to follow salvation but has no part in salvation. Baptism by immersion is a representation of the death, burial, and resurrection of a new life in Christ.
